Eczema explained and the story of our Beeswax Salve

Eczema explained and the story of our Beeswax Salve

Our first product, the Beeswax Salve,  started as a homemade remedy for my baby girl with eczema. After weeks of agony & itching, I had tried everything on her rash, from natural to hormone ointments, but nothing would help. I decided to try a family recipe of a beeswax salve with propolis. After applying the homemade salve for three weeks, her rash magically disappeared. After experiencing the healing power of this natural remedy I started my company Saar Soleares and the beeswax salve became a great succes in the Netherlands as a natural eczema remedy. The salve has since then helped many more children around the world with their skin. It's main healing , active ingredient is propolis.

what is propolis?

Propolis is a resinous substance that bees produce from materials they collect from tree buds. Bees use propolis to close the gaps in the hives and as a precautionary measure to keep out dangerous microbes and fungiPropolis has been used for medicinal purposes since before 350 BC. It has been used internally as well as externally for it's ability to kill bacteria, viruses, and fungi, to possess local anesthetic, anti-ulcer, and anti-inflammatory properties, to lower blood pressure and stimulate the immune system.

Pharaoh Cleopatra started using propolis, a mystic, powerful ingredient that was used during the embalming process and known for it's preserving qualities. She started applying these preserving qualities to her skin as an anti-aging treatment. Assyrians put it on wounds and tumors to fight infection and help the healing process. Also in ancient Greece, Hippocrates, the most admired physician in the history of medicine, would use propolis to heal infections and wounds.

Propolis is one of the only substances in the world that contains all vitamins, minerals and amino acids needed to sustain life. Today scientific research has proved these healing qualities of propolis. Find more information here

eczema explained

Eczema is the name for a group of conditions that cause the skin to become red, itchy and inflamed. For most types of eczema, a combination of genes and a trigger are involved. People with eczema tend to have an over-reactive immune system that when triggered by a substance outside or inside the body, responds by producing inflammation.

Healthy skin and epidermis is made up of cells that are plump full of water, and full of fats and oils in the skin that help enhance the water-retaining capabilities. If you have eczema, your skin is most likely producing less fats and oils than it should be, and the ability to retain water is diminished. The space between cells widens since they aren’t plump with moisture, you begin to lose water from the dermis, and irritants and bacteria can enter easier.

Note : This is why for example soaps and detergents can worsen eczema, as they strip away the little lipids your skin is producing, leaving your skin dry, inflamed, and sometimes cracked or blistered.

Although there is no "cure" for eczema it is possible to control and also relieve the symptoms. Next to treating the skin, it is important to find out what causes the skin to flare up.
